The President's Perspective

Looking for more involvement.

When I coordinated this Alumnae Chapter, I did so because I had missed out on a lot of my Sigma Collegiate years. I was naïve to believe that everyone would feel as I did, wanting to get involved in an alumnae chapter where the responsibilities were not as much as they are when you are in a collegiate chapter. Since our Charter in 1995, I have seen many sisters enter and depart our chapter and feel I have made many friends because of it. However, with the number of Tri Sigmas in the Miami-Dade/Broward area, I am overwhelmed by the low percentage of turn out our chapter receives from the alumnae in the area. I realize that all of our lives are very busy but every one can make time to have some leisure. Since the tragedy on September 11th, I have come to the understanding that the leisure time with our families and new and old friends is precious. So in this section, I am calling out to all the Sigmas who have yet to make a meeting, to attend at least one either this Spring or the coming Fall. Make your own decision first hand if this Alumnae Chapter is right for you. Just attend one meeting – that is all I ask. I hope that when you do, you find that belonging to an alumnae chapter is very beneficial. We have two wonderful Collegiate Chapters we support, Zeta Epsilon at FIU in Miami and Eta Eta at Lynn University in Boca Raton. The girls are terrific and it is fun reliving through their eyes your Collegiate life with Tri Sigma. So GET INVOLVED!

With that said, I have extended our meetings in the Spring into May since I got a late start on this Newsletter. If my rant has peaked your curiosity, take a look at our activities from last Fall and make your own judgement on how wonderful it is being involved in the South Florida Alumnae Chapter.

Make sure to mark your calendars for some fantastic meetings planned this Spring!

September 8th - BID Day for Zeta Epsilon at FIU University Park Campus.

What an exciting day!!! Watching the excitement of the Chapter and of the Rushees as they revealed themselves as new members of the Zeta Epsilon Chapter was exhilarating and deafening. Zeta Epsilon received a total of 13 new members in the Fall. Congratulations Zeta Epsilon!!!

October 6th - Second Annual Alumnae/Collegiate Picnic TY Park

The sisters of Eta Eta (Lynn University) and Zeta Epsilon (FIU) joined the alumnae members for the Second Annual Alumnae/Collegiate Picnic at T.Y. Park in Broward County. The girls from Zeta Epsilon were in the mood for a real BBQ so up the road we went to Publix for hamburgers and hotdogs. It was nice meeting the new members of both chapters and the alumnae were thrilled that there was such a great turn out.
