Starting the New Century

The Recruitment Mission

In the Fall/Winter 1999 Newsletter, a questionnaire was enclosed so that the Chapter could get an idea of how many alumni who receive this newsletter were interested in joining the Chapter. We received an impressive return. Thanks to all the Sigmas who sent back their questionnaires. If you have not been contacted by an alumnae member yet, someone will be calling you soon. I hope to see those of you who returned the questionnaire at one of the Fall meetings scheduled. For anyone who hasn't filled out a questionnaire yet can go here: Alumnae Questionnaire.

January 2000

Alumnae members met for lunch at Applebee's on 41st Street in Miami. We shared our Millennium New Year's Celebration stories with each other and planned for the coming season of meetings.

February 1998

Although no meeting was scheduled for this month, Chris Quackenbush (Delta Upsilon) and Kim Groome (Rho) met at Florida International University (Zeta Epsilon Chapter) to distribute goodies for Valentine's Day. They took the collegiates by surprise and were excited to share in their curiosity of what was in the goodie bags that were given to them.

March 1998

Our Chapter was visited by Joyce Dibble Godfrey (Nu) who is our regional Alumnae Extension Chair. She visited our Chapter on behalf of the Regional Alumnae Chair Rae Jobson (Lambda). Joyce joined us at the Broward Partnership for the Homeless Center to read to the children. (For more on the Center, see below.) Afterwards, we had lunch and discussed issues regarding our Chapter with Joyce. Many of our complaints seemed to hit home since one of our reports was finally published in the last issue of the Triangle magazine. It may have been a small article but it is a start. After speaking with Joyce, I think she returned with a good report about our Chapter to Rae and to Nationals.

April 2000, Founder's Day

What a wonderful day this year's Founder's Day turned out to be. Carol Metevier, once again, graciously opened her beautiful residence over looking the sea in Ft. Lauderdale for this joyous event. Also joining the alumni members were members of the Eta Eta Chapter of Lynn University where Chris Quackenbush is the Chapter Advisor. We all had a great time talking with the collegiates, sharing stories about college and Sigma.

Web Site

I am going to keep promoting our site until I have over one million hits. A great tool to search for anything about our Chapter and anything Sigma. View old Alumnae Newsletters or the Link page to see if your collegiate chapter has a web site. I try to keep everything updated so go and take a look.

Our site is at

Being an Active Tri Sigma Alum

There is nothing mandatory about being in our Alumnae Chapter. We always have a great time with each other and our activities are always fun. Unlike being active at a collegiate chapter, our chapter does not require you to attend every meeting/function. Although we always love to have everyone attend every meeting, we know that is sometimes not possible. Our dues are only $20 and that is mostly to help with mailing this newsletter. We alternate between counties and do service projects on the local and national levels. Our goal is to reunite with old friends, make new friends, and keep a great network of Tri Sigma's in the South Florida area. Every Tri Sigma is welcome to join. I hope to see YOU at one of our next meetings!

We have already donated approximately 75 children's books to the facility. Any types of books would be helpful. Also, if you have any clothes or other things you want to get rid of, donations of those items to the Center would be greatly appreciated.
