Volume 6, Issue 1                                                                                                                 Spring/Summer 2002

Dear South Florida Sigmas;

This will be a short newsletter.  This past Spring was very traumatic for me and my family.  My husband suffered a cardiac arrest at the end of February.  He was revived and is doing much better now I am happy to say.  However, do to that hectic time my duties as president of this Chapter have been limited.  The Founder’s Day in April was canceled due to poor response and I have not done anything regarding the Chapter since.  I have renewed my gusto for my sorority I love and hope that we can have a great turn out this Fall.  Attached are dates for the coming Fall meetings.  I hope that you all will be interested in attending some of these meetings.  At FIU where we support the Zeta Epsilon chapter, things are very exciting right now.  The new football team began their season on August 29, 2002 with a BIG win and Homecoming is October 26, 2002.   There is even a Sigma cheerleader!!!!  I hope that their Fall recruitment is a success and I hope that some of you will want to be there to support them.  They are requesting that we give them all the support that we can.  They really need some direction especially from seasoned alums.

Here are the dates for the meetings in the Fall 2002:

Zeta Epsilon Recruitment

Recruitment for Zeta Epsilon starts Thursday September 12th at 8:00 p.m.   The following is what’s scheduled for Recruitment 2002 at FIU.

Open House is Thursday, September 12th at 8:00 p.m.   This is an introductory session before the rotations begin.  Each sorority introduces itself and then the potential new members break into groups with their Rho Gammas (the new name for Rho Chi’s) for icebreakers and pictures.

First Rotation

First rotations begin Tuesday, September 17th at 7:00 p.m. – Sorority 101.  If you can attend, please arrive at 6:30 p.m. to help the chapter finish setting up for this party.  Everyone who is attending recruitment will be at this party so if you want to attend, this would be the party to go to show that the Chapter has support from the area Alumni.

Second Rotation

Second rotations begin Wednesday, September 18th at 7:00 p.m. – Philanthropy Night.  If you can attend, please arrive at 6:30 p.m. to help the chapter finish setting up for this party.

Third Rotation

Third rotations begin Thursday, September 19th at 8:00 p.m. – Dessert Night.  If you can attend, please arrive at 7:30 p.m. to help the chapter finish setting up for this party.

Fourth Rotation

Fourth rotations begin Friday, September 20th at 8:00 p.m. – Preference Night.  If you can attend, please arrive at 7:30 p.m. to help the chapter finish setting up for this party.  I hear that Zeta Epsilon’s pref night is very special so it might be a treat for us alums who miss their Chapter to attend and relive their pref night!!!

BID day is Saturday, September 21st at 1:00 p.m.  Please arrive at 12:30 p.m. so you don’t miss the unveiling of the newest Zeta Epsilon Sigmas.  This, of course, is our first meeting of the Fall so please don’t miss it!!!

If there are any alums who are interested in becoming an advisor for Zeta Epsilon, please let me know.  At this time, they have no alumni advisors for their Chapter.  The only advisor they have right now is a Faculty Advisor.  The women of Zeta Epsilon are a great group.  They are true Sigmas with wonderful excitement and a great loyalty to the Chapter.  They really need alumni advisors to help with knowledge and advice about Tri Sigma.   To be an advisor, you must be out of collegiate Tri Sigma for at least 5 years.  Please contact me at sigma3sfla@yahoo.com if you are interested.

I hope to see you all at our meetings and also during FIU Recruitment.  This Fall I am going to start calling anyone whose phone number I have to remind you of all the meetings,as well as emailing the reminders so I will be talking to all of you soon.

In Our Bonds,

Kim Groome, Rho ‘87

President, South Florida Alumnae Chapter
